How to Test Your Campaigns
Updated over 4 months ago

Testing your campaign before sending it to your list is crucial to ensure everything works as expected. Below are different methods you can use to test your email campaign.

1. Send a Test Version of Your Campaign

This method lets you see how the email appears in a specific recipient’s email client. You can also involve multiple team members to view the email across different clients and devices.

  • Purpose: Use this test to quickly review content, verify that all links and buttons work correctly, and ensure the design looks good. Replies to the test will go to the "From" email address.

  • Limitations: You can send a test email to up to 5 different email addresses. Conditional content, personalization tags, and link actions won’t render, and any actions taken by test contacts won’t be recorded.

Before You Start:

  • Separate each email address with a comma and a space.

  • Ensure the test email address is different from the “From” address to avoid deliverability issues. If the “From” and “To” email addresses share the same domain (e.g., @mycompany.com), whitelist our IP ranges to prevent issues.

How to Send a Test Email:

  • From the Campaign Settings Page:

    • Click either the Gear icon or the Test Email icon

    • Enter the email addresses and click "Send Test."

  • From the Campaign Summary Page:

    • Click the "Test and Preview" button.

    • Enter the email addresses in the "Send Test Email" field and click "Send."

2. Desktop Preview

The Desktop Preview allows you to see how your email looks on both desktop and mobile devices.

  • Purpose: This is useful for checking how your design transitions from desktop to mobile. However, it should not be your only design test since different email clients render HTML differently.

  • Access: Available from both the Campaign Settings page and the Campaign Summary page.

How to access the Desktop Preview

  • From the Designer

    • Click the Preview icon above the right sidebar in the Campaign Designer.

    • A modal will open, showing the email on both desktop and mobile.

  • From the Campaign Summary page
The Desktop preview from the Campaign Summary page lets you view the email from a specific contact’s point of view, allowing you to see how personalization tags and conditional content will render.

You can also use this to view the plain text version of your email. This option only displays the desktop version of your email.

    • From the Campaign Summary page, click the "Test and preview" button.

    • Click the "Desktop Preview" button.

    • A modal will open where you can view the desktop version of your email.

To see how this email will look for a specific contact, type their email address in the email address field located on the top right of your screen. Then click “Preview.”

To view the plain text format of your email, click the “Format” dropdown and click “Text.”

3. Send Your Campaign to a Test List

Create a copy of your campaign and send it to a list of test contacts. Ensure the list includes contacts with different email clients (e.g., work email, Yahoo, Gmail) and that your team can access those accounts.

  • Purpose: This method helps you see how the campaign looks across different clients and devices. You can also test personalization tags, conditional content, and other elements. All actions (e.g., link clicks, opens) are tracked in the Reports section.

  • Note: To avoid deliverability issues, make sure the “From” and “To” email addresses don’t share the same domain. Whitelist our IP ranges if necessary.

How to Send Your Campaign to a Test List:

  1. Go to Campaigns Overview: Access the Campaigns Overview page.

  2. Duplicate the Campaign: Click the down caret next to the campaign you want to copy, then select "Duplicate."

  3. Continue with the Copy: The copied campaign will appear at the top of the Campaigns Overview page. Click "Continue" for that campaign.

  4. Select Test List: On the Campaign Summary page, choose the test list you want to send the campaign to. Ensure no other list is selected.

  5. Send the Campaign: Click "Send Now" to send your campaign to the test list.
