Use this guide to customise Connective document templates and upload them so they can be used when generating merged documents from Mercury Nexus. This applies to ACL holders who want to use their own branded or tailored templates.
Customise a document template
You can customise one of Connective’s preloaded master templates before uploading it for use.
Download the template
Open the Admin app. Select Documents from the left-hand menu.
Select the Merge templates tab.
Highlight the relevant template. Select Download.
Important. If you download the template from the preview panel on the right-hand side, it will download as an uneditable PDF. Always use the Download option from the template list.Edit the template Edit the downloaded document in Microsoft Word and save your changes.
Note
To ensure data merges correctly, you must use valid Document Merge Fields. See here.Upload the customised template Select + Add in the Merge templates screen.
In the Add document window, select Browse.
Choose your edited document and select Open.
Select the destination folder and choose Choose.
If you select the Loans – Compliance folder, an additional field appears. You must select the document type:Credit Guide
Credit Proposal Disclosure
Provision of Referral Services
Quote
Once the upload finishes, the document is available for use.
Which template Nexus uses when merging
All Nexus users have access to Connective merge templates stored in the Admin app > Documents section. Which template Nexus uses depends on how many templates exist in the relevant folder.
Where there is one master template
If there is only one master merge template in the folder, Nexus automatically uses it.
Example
When merging from a Funding Position, only one master template exists, so no selection is required.
Where there are multiple master templates
If more than one master merge template exists, Nexus prompts you to select which template to use.
Example
When merging a Credit Guide, multiple master templates are available. Nexus asks you to confirm which one to merge.
When a custom template is uploaded
If a custom non-master merge template is uploaded, Nexus defaults to that template. This applies even when multiple master templates exist for that document type.
Example
Your partner group uploads its own version of the Funding Position merge template. Nexus automatically uses the custom version.
If you want Nexus to prompt for template selection again, you must upload an additional custom template to that folder.

File requirements for merge templates
Important: Merge templates must be uploaded as Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) files. Uploading a PDF will cause an error when merging documents in Nexus.
