Draft BID notes with AI

Use this guide to draft your Best Interests Duty (BID) commentary from what’s already recorded on the opportunity. You review every response, change what needs changing, and finalise it as your own.

What is Draft with AI?

Draft with AI writes a first draft of each of your BID comments using the opportunity’s details, notes, questionnaire answers and product comparison. Each draft is written fresh for that client. It is not a template, and the same wording is not reused from file to file.

You stay responsible for your BID comments. Nothing is saved to the opportunity until you approve each answer and finalise.

Start a draft

  1. Open the opportunity and go to the BID tab.

  2. Select Draft with AI.

  3. The draft opens in three steps: Checks, Draft and Review.

Note: If Draft with AI is greyed out, your user isn’t linked to a partner. Contact helpdesk to fix your user setup.

Resolve the checks

Before drafting, Draft with AI checks the opportunity for anything that would make the BID comments wrong or incomplete. Each check shows a status, such as answered or confirm.

  1. Open each check that needs attention and add or confirm your reason. Where you didn’t recommend the cheapest option, explain why the selected lender suits this client.

  2. Select Continue. If something is still outstanding, Draft with AI opens it for you and tells you what’s needed.

  3. If you’d rather not answer the optional checks, select Continue without answers.

Tip: Write your reasons about the lender you selected. If the evidence on file mentions a different lender, Draft with AI warns you before you continue.

If you see an error: “This BID can’t be drafted yet. Fix the issue below, then start Draft with AI again.” Something on the opportunity blocks drafting, such as the product comparison and the opportunity disagreeing about the lender. Fix the issue shown, then start again.

Review contradictions

If the file says two different things about the client, Draft with AI shows the contradiction and where it came from. For example, a rate preference in the notes might not match the questionnaire.

  1. Select Back to fix the opportunity first (recommended), or

  2. Select Generate anyway to draft with the contradiction in place.

Review and finalise your BID comments

Drafting usually takes a short while. When it’s done, each BID section appears as a draft.

  1. Read each response against the client’s file. Edit anything that isn’t accurate or doesn’t sound like you.

  2. Where a comment shows [NEEDS INPUT], the file didn’t hold enough information. Write that part yourself.

  3. Approve each section by confirming I’ve reviewed this and it’s my justification.

  4. Select Finalise BID once every section is approved. Your comments are saved to the opportunity’s BID tab.

Important: Draft with AI gives you a starting point, not a finished BID summary. Check every claim against the file before you approve it. ASIC expects your BID notes to explain why this recommendation suits this client, so remove anything generic or unsupported.

Choose how your BIDs read

Your drafts are written in Standard, Connective’s house style, unless you build your own style. Your style choice applies to all your future drafts. It doesn’t change answers you’ve already finalised.

To open your drafting style:

  • In Draft with AI, select Change next to the line that shows your current style, or

  • Go to Admin > My Details > Drafting style.

Build your own style

  1. In Paste a BID answer you wrote yourself, paste one of your own BID notes. The reasons for your lender choice work best. Use between 200 and 4,000 characters.

  2. Replace client names with “you”.

  3. Select Read my writing. This can take up to a minute.

  4. Check What BID noticed and Phrases you use: to see how BID reads your writing. Select See what BID learns from to see your answer with the client details taken out.

  5. Select Use this style, or Start again to try a different response.

Note: Use comments you wrote yourself, not the ones from Draft with AI. Your style changes how drafts read, not what they say. BID won’t copy your answer’s wording or openings into new drafts.

Switch between Standard and your own style

Under Your BIDs use, select Standard or Your own style. The change applies to your next drafts. Switching to Standard keeps your own style, so you can switch back at any time without rebuilding it.

Replace or delete your own style

  • To try a different answer, select Replace with another answer.

  • To remove your style completely, select Delete my style, then confirm. The answer you pasted is deleted with it, and your BIDs use Standard.

If you see an error: “BID can’t use your style right now.” Your drafts use Standard until you select Replace with another answer and build your style again.

Good to know

  • Your pasted answer is kept until you replace or delete it. It is never put into a BID itself.

  • Client details are taken out of your pasted answer before BID learns from it.

  • Your drafting style is personal. It applies only to BID comments you draft.

  • You can read your writing up to 10 times a day.

  • If your account doesn’t offer your own style yet, the drafting style page shows only the style your BIDs use.
