Creating an Opportunity

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Use this guide to create an opportunity record in CRM so you can track and manage current or potential deals in one place.

Opportunity records centralise client details, deal information, and progress updates. This helps you stay organised and reduce duplicate data entry.

Create an opportunity from the opportunities section

Use this method when creating a deal that is not yet linked to a specific contact.

  1. Open the CRM app.

  2. Select Opportunities from the left-hand menu.

  3. Click the + icon to create a new opportunity.

  4. A new tab will open. Enter the relevant deal details.

Note: New opportunity records are automatically generated with a default name.

Create an opportunity from a people record

Use this method when the deal relates to an existing contact.

  1. Open the CRM app.

  2. Select People from the left-hand menu.

  3. Open the relevant contact record.

  4. Select Opportunities from the sub-menu.

  5. Click + Add to create a new opportunity.

  6. A new tab will open. Enter the relevant deal details.

Rename your opportunity for clarity

Update the opportunity name so you can identify it quickly in lists and reports.

Use a clear and consistent naming format, for example:

Joe & Jane Bloggs – O/O Purchase – Collins St VIC 3000 – Jan 2020

This makes it easier to:

  • Search for records

  • Distinguish between multiple deals for the same client

  • Review pipeline activity at a glance

Tip: Include borrower name, purpose, property address, and month/year for quick reference.

What happens next

After creating the opportunity, you can:

  • Update deal stages

  • Add notes and documents

  • Record activities

  • Link related contacts
