Sending emails using HTML templates in Mercury Nexus

Learn how to import and send externally created HTML email templates using email merge in Mercury Nexus.

Updated this week

HTML email templates allow you to send professionally styled marketing emails while maintaining brand consistency.

You can create your HTML email externally and import it into Mercury Nexus using the email merge function.

Before you begin

  • Ensure your HTML template is complete and ready to paste.

  • Confirm your Email Profile (signature) is set up correctly.

Note
Connective does not provide support for creating HTML emails. You must prepare your HTML code before importing it into Mercury.

Send an HTML email using email merge

To send an email using an external HTML template:

  • Open your HTML template.

  • Copy the full HTML code.

  • Open the CRM app.

  • Select People from the left-hand menu.

  • Highlight the contacts you wish to email (use the Windows or Apple key for multiple selection).

  • Click Merge from the top menu.

  • Select Email.

  • Choose:

    • Email All, or

    • Email Selected

  • Click Next.

Important
Selecting Email All will send the email to all People records in your CRM.

Paste your HTML code

  • Click Code View.

  • Paste your HTML code into the editor.

  • Click Code View again to return to normal view.

Personalise your email

Use the Insert Tag drop-down to add merge tags (e.g. First Name).

  • Place your cursor where the tag should appear.

  • Select the tag from the drop-down list.

Tags will automatically populate with data from your CRM records.

Add attachments (optional)

To attach files:

  • Navigate to the Attachments tab.

  • Click Upload to add a file from your computer; or

  • Click Attach to select a file already stored in Mercury Nexus.

Review recipients

  • Open the Recipients tab.

  • Confirm the correct contacts are listed.

When ready:

  • Click Merge.

  • Select Send Email.

Test before sending

We recommend:

  • Sending a test email to yourself first.

  • Checking formatting, links and personalisation.

  • Reviewing how the email renders on desktop and mobile.

Avoid formatting issues

If you are pasting HTML directly into Code View, we recommend optimising the code first.

For example, you can use the following prompt in ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot:

“Convert the following HTML email template for use with Microsoft HTML editor.”

This helps reduce formatting issues such as:

  • Broken table layouts

  • Incorrect cell shading

  • Font inconsistencies
