Use this guide to create, edit and personalise SMS templates in Mercury Nexus CRM. SMS templates save time, keep messaging consistent across your practice, and reduce errors when texting clients from the CRM.
You can use SMS templates when sending an SMS from an opportunity, when inviting clients to the Client Portal via SMS, and on other SMS surfaces in Mercury Nexus.
Note You must have Admin-level access to create or edit SMS templates.
Create a new SMS template
Open the Admin app.
Select CRM Settings from the left-hand menu.
Click SMS Templates in the top menu.
Click + to open a new tab.
Enter a Template Name.
Select a Type from the dropdown. The type controls where this template appears for selection (for example, Client Portal Invite templates appear when sending a Client Portal request via SMS).
Add your message in the Body field. The character counter beneath the field shows length against the 160-character SMS limit.
Use the Insert Tag dropdown to personalise your message by populating data from your opportunity or contact record. For example,
{{firstName}}will insert the recipient's first name.Close the tab to save.
Note SMS body is plain text only. HTML, rich text formatting, and attachments are not supported.
Tip Messages over 160 characters are split into multiple SMS segments, which may arrive as separate texts on some devices and incur additional cost. Keep templates concise where possible, and remember that long merge tag values (like lender names or links) count toward the limit when the message is sent.
Edit a Connective master template
Connective provides master SMS templates (for example, a default Client Portal Invitation). You cannot edit these directly.
To customise one:
Open Admin > CRM Settings > SMS Templates.
Select the master template from the list.
Click Clone.
Open the cloned version and edit as required.
Delete an SMS template
To remove an SMS template:
Open Admin > CRM Settings > SMS Templates.
Select the template from the list.
Click Delete.
You cannot delete Connective master templates.
What SMS field tags are available from Opportunity or Person records?
SMS tags pull data from your records when the message is sent. Most tags are used with Opportunity records. Open the Insert Tag dropdown in the template editor to see the full list available in your environment.
The SMS template tag library mirrors the email template tag library.
