Use this guide to customise the automated birthday SMS messages sent to your clients through Mercury. Personalised messages help you stay connected and reinforce your brand without manual follow-up.
The birthday SMS feature is available to brokers on Lite Touch and Premium Digital Marketing Hub (DMH) plans. Messages are sent from your Mercury Nexus account.
How birthday SMS messages work
Clients will receive a birthday SMS when all of the following apply:
A date of birth is recorded on their Mercury contact record
The MM – sms people category is assigned
Your business has an active Lite Touch or Premium DMH subscription
Clients who meet these criteria receive a “Happy Birthday” SMS on their birthday.
Note :
Birthday SMS messages are sent on weekdays only. If a client’s birthday falls on a weekend, the SMS is sent on the Friday.
Control who receives birthday SMS messages
You control eligibility through Mercury contact records.
To manage recipients:
Ensure the client’s date of birth is entered
Assign the MM – sms people category
Choose which phone number messages come from
By default, birthday SMS messages are sent from a generic Connective number.
If you want messages to appear from your own mobile number, you must register it in Mercury. This allows clients to reply directly to you.
If you’d like the SMS to appear from your phone number, rather than a generic Connective number, you can register your mobile number in Mercury, so your clients can reply directly to you.
Customise birthday SMS templates
You can personalise the birthday SMS template to better reflect your tone and brand.
Only Admin and Partner level Mercury users with a Digital Marketing Hub subscription can edit birthday SMS templates.
To edit the templates:
Go to the Admin app in Mercury Nexus
Select CRM settings
Choose Birthday SMS templates from the top menu
Edit the Weekday SMS and Weekend SMS messages
Select Insert tag to add personalisation (for example,
{{firstName}})Changes save automatically
Branch access limitations
Important:
If you are part of a Virtual Branch, you cannot edit birthday SMS templates. Only users in the Main Branch can make changes in CRM settings.
Trading name and sign-off behaviour
Your trading name is automatically added to the end of every birthday SMS.
You can:
Update your trading name in Partner details via the Admin app in Mercury Nexus
Remove the
{{tradingName}}tag and replace it with your own custom sign-off
If you need help updating your trading name, contact the Mercury Helpdesk.
