Using a Chrome Extension for Multi-Factor Authentication

If you’re unable to use a mobile phone for Multi-Factor Authentication, Authenticator also offers a google chrome extension so you can use your computer browser for MFA.

To download Authenticator Chrome Extension:

  1. Open a new browser window in Chrome

  2. Click on Add to Chrome

  3. You will see the add to chrome button go to checking and then remove from Chrome. This means the extension is now added.

  4. To find the Authenticator plug in, click on the Extension puzzle piece in the top right hand menu. It's useful to pin this plugin so you can easily access it from the top right menu.

To use the Authenticator Chrome Extension for Mercury Nexus access

  1. Log into Mercury Nexus

  2. Navigate to the Admin app

  3. On the My Details screen, tick Reset Multi-Factor Authentication

  4. Log out of Mercury Nexus. The next time you login, you’ll be prompted to setup your Multi-Factor Authentication

  5. When you next log, you’ll see the below message appear. Click on Try another method.

  6. Select Google Authenticator or similar.

  7. You will be presented with a QR code. Select the Authenticator plugin and click on the scan button

  8. Use the scan functionality to scan the QR code on your desktop

  9. Authenticator will then re-load to show a code

  10. Enter that code in the field below

  11. You will then be presented with a recovery code incase you ever need to login without authenticator. Copy and paste this code somewhere safe

  12. Click continue. You will now be able to log into Mercury Nexus.
