Business Owners can use this guide to onboard a new broker in Mercury Nexus through the Membership Centre. You’ll learn how to start a broker application, understand contractor and employee differences, and manage required documentation.

Before you begin

Before onboarding a broker, ensure they already have a Mercury user account. See How to manage Mercury user accounts.

What is broker onboarding?

Broker onboarding is how Business Owners add a new broker to their business in Mercury Nexus. All onboarding is completed in the Membership Centre and only Business Owners can initiate broker applications.

The onboarding requirements differ depending on whether the broker is a contractor or an employee. Contractors must provide business-related documentation, such as an ABN and trading information. Employees generally provide employment-related documentation.

Start a new broker application

  1. Go to Membership Centre in Mercury Nexus and select Add a Broker

  2. Select the broker’s name from the list of Mercury users and click Start application. If the broker does not appear, confirm they are an existing Mercury user

  3. Complete the application form:

    • Title

    • Business Owner – select who will sign the Broker’s application form.

    • Relationship to your business – choose contractor or employee. If contractor, enter the ABN

    • Trading details – appears only for contractors and determines who the broker will trade as

  4. Click Submit

What happens after submission

The broker receives an email prompting them to sign the application form and upload their required documents.

Business Owners can also upload documents on behalf of the broker.

The initial onboarding checklist is auto-generated. Once the broker’s structure is confirmed, the Onboarding Team will update the checklist to reflect any additional requirements.

Note: If you do not see the person listed in the Add a Broker section. Make a small change to their account via Manage Users and then try again after 10 minutes.
