Updated over a week ago

Understanding your client’s financial position is a key part of meeting your responsible lending obligations.

You can request illion credit reports free of charge directly within an Opportunity in Mercury Nexus, saving time and avoiding the need for external systems.

Note
illion credit checks leave a file access footprint on the client’s Australian credit record but do not impact the consumer’s credit score.

Before you begin

You must:

  • Obtain client consent before ordering a credit report.

  • Enable the illion integration in Mercury (if not already set up).

Incomplete or incorrect data may result in an immediate error.

Requests typically process in under one minute.

Important notes

Note
illion credit checks for Company records are not available.

If you receive a permissions error when attempting to run a report:

  • Check the branch location of the Contact.

  • A head office team member may need to move the Contact into your virtual branch.

Why illion and Equifax data may differ

Credit bureaus such as illion and Equifax share approximately 90% of common data.

Around 10% may be exclusive to one bureau and not appear in the other.

Each bureau also uses its own scoring algorithm. Because calculations and weighting differ, credit scores may vary between bureaus.

Many major banks and some second-tier lenders are dual bureau, meaning they check both illion and Equifax before making a decision.

Immediate credit check error – common causes

If the credit check fails immediately, common causes include:

Address mismatch

The illion database may still list a previous address as the current home address.

Solution:

  • Temporarily update the Home Address in the People record to match the previous address.

  • Re-run the credit check.

Name mismatch

The client may have multiple first or last names that do not match the bureau record.

Solution:

  • Temporarily remove additional names from the People record.

  • Re-run the credit check.

Best practice tips

  • Verify client details carefully before ordering.

  • Ensure name spelling matches official ID.

  • Confirm address history aligns with bureau records.

  • Document client consent clearly.
