In Australia there are very strict rules around email messaging. For this reason, if you or your team send marketing emails or messages, you need to know about spam laws.
Under the Australian Spam Act, every commercial message must contain an unsubscribe option. For this reason, all People records in Mercury Nexus have a No Email Marketing tick-box, which is automatically checked if a user clicks on the link.
How do I add an unsubscribe link to emails?
All marketing emails sent via Mail Merge will automatically include an unsubscribe link. If the recipient clicks on the link, the No Email Marketing checkbox will automatically update.
NOTE: Sending an email individually to clients, CCing other people, or sending a mail merge to one person will not have the unsubscribe link added.
How do I exclude clients from bulk emails?
You can manually exclude your clients future marketing emails. To add these to the list:
In the CRM app, select People from the main left-hand menu.
Open the relevant contact record.
Check the No Email Marketing box and the client’s email address will no longer be added to a Mercury email merge.
How do I track unsubscribes?
You can report on all your users who have clicked the Unsubscribe link by using the No Email Marketing filter as a search. Refer to Using the CRM Search Filters.
Where can I find out more about Spam rules and regulations?
The Spam Act 2002 and the Spam Regulations set out your responsibilities under Australian law.
