About Zapier
Updated over a year ago

Zapier is an online automation tool that connects Mercury with your favourite apps, such as Gmail, MailChimp, and Salesforce to name just a few.

What is Zapier?

With the Mercury connector on Zapier, you can connect Mercury with other apps to automate repetitive tasks without relying on developers to build the integration.

As an example you could create a workflow that automatically moves contacts between Mercury and Google, so you can focus on your most important work. It's easy enough that anyone can build their own app workflows with just a few clicks!

What is a Zap?

Zaps are the workflows; the set of instructions that tell each app what it needs to do, and when. Zaps are created in Zapier, linking two or more apps together. Zaps contain Triggers, Searches, and Actions.

Trigger: Triggers watch for events in your app, then kick off a sequence of Searches or Actions.

Search: Searches look up existing data.

Action: Actions create new items.

Together they complete your task for you - without having to lift a finger!

What is a Task?

Each piece of data you run through your Zap counts as a task. That means if your Zap syncs 100 contacts to your google account automatically, your Zap just performed 100 tasks.

Note: the number of tasks your Zaps runs will determine what Zapier plan is best for you.

How Zapier Works

Zapier is a web automation app. With Zapier you can build Zaps which can automate parts of your business or life.

A Zap is a blueprint for a task you want to do over and over. In words, a Zap looks like this: "When I get a new thing in A, do this other thing in B." The first part is the Trigger and the second part is the Action.

Zapier supports hundreds of apps. You can mix and match triggers and actions to automate just about anything.

An example might be "When I get a new entry from a Wufoo form, create a new lead in Salesforce."

Zaps are very lightweight and very easy to setup.

With Zapier, you get as much granularity as you need. You can pick what fields from the trigger service should go to the action service and you can use static text and custom fields too. For instance, you might say that the phone number from your Wufoo form should be the work phone of your new Salesforce lead.

Every few minutes, Zapier regularly checks your trigger for new data (some even get triggered immediately!). When the Zap triggers, Zapier automatically performs the action for you.

Continuing with the Wufoo scenario, say you receive five new entries. Zapier takes each one and makes a new lead in Salesforce, customized to the way you specified in your Zap.

Without any more effort from you, data flows from one service to the other!
