Updating your company name in Mercury Nexus

A guide to updating your trading name in Mercury and submitting documentation to update your legal company name.

Updated today

When you change your business name, you must make sure Mercury reflects the correct details. This article explains what you can update yourself in Mercury and when you need to contact Connective to update your legal company name.

Understanding business names in Mercury

Mercury stores two different business name fields in the Admin area:

  • Business Name (legal entity name): Your registered company or business entity name.

  • Trading Name (business name): The name you trade under, which may differ from your legal entity name.

Important: Your legal company name in Mercury must always match your official registration and compliance documents, such as your Australian Credit Licence, professional indemnity insurance and Australian Financial Complaints Authority membership.

Changing your trading (business) name in Mercury

You can update your Trading Name directly in Mercury when your public-facing trading name changes but your legal entity stays the same.

To update your trading name:

  1. Go to Admin in Mercury.

  2. Select Partner details.

  3. Update the Trading Name field.

  4. Save your changes.

Tip: Use the trading name that appears in your client-facing materials, such as your website and email signature.

Changing your legal company name (Business Name)

You cannot change the Business Name yourself in Mercury. This field is controlled by Connective and must match your legal registration.

If your legal company name has changed (with your Australian Company Number (ACN) remaining the same), Connective will update this for you once you provide the required documents.

Note: This ensures your compliance records remain consistent across Mercury and all supporting documents.

Documents you need when your legal company name changes

If your legal company name has changed (ACN unchanged), please provide the following updated documents:

  • Professional indemnity (PI) insurance showing the new company name

  • Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) membership certificate showing the new company name

  • Australian Credit Licence (ACL) with the new company name (if applicable)

  • Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) or Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) membership details (if applicable)

Important: Each document must clearly show the new legal company name and, if relevant, the same ACN already held on file.

Once your documents are updated:

  1. Confirm they show your new legal company name.
