Use this guide to manage birthday SMS communications sent from your Mercury Nexus account. You’ll learn how birthday SMS messages are triggered and how to stop a message sending to a specific contact when needed.
How birthday SMS works
The birthday SMS feature is available on the Lite Touch and Premium Digital Marketing Hub plans. Messages are sent automatically from your Mercury Nexus account.
A contact will receive a “Happy Birthday” SMS when all of the following apply:
A date of birth is recorded on the contact profile
The Birthday SMS category is assigned to the contact
The category name is “MM - sms”
If these conditions are met, the SMS will send automatically on the contact’s birthday.
Stop a birthday SMS from sending to a contact
To stop a birthday SMS for an individual contact, you need to remove them from the Birthday SMS category.
Unassign the Birthday SMS category
Open the contact record in Mercury Nexus
Locate the contact’s assigned categories
Remove the “MM - sms” category
Save the contact record
Once the category is removed, the birthday SMS will no longer send for that contact.
Tip: You don’t need to remove the date of birth if you only want to stop SMS messages.
What happens next
The contact will remain in your database
Other communications are unaffected unless they rely on the same category
No birthday SMS will be sent in future years unless the category is re-assigned
